This summer I feel like I’ve lost touch with quite a few aspects of simple living. My personal morning routine is nowhere to be found, which means I haven’t been extremely successful at keeping my children on some type of routine throughout the day either. Lunches are a hodgepodge of yogurt, PB oatmeal balls, fresh fruit, cheese, popcorn and MAYBE some baby carrots thrown in now and then. I’m not even going to talk about dinner.
Let me just say, summer is winning in my house. It’s not all bad, the lack of routine means we’ve spent more time swimming, went kayaking for the first time, learned up close about sea turtles; and I feel like I’ve gotten more sleep in the past couple of months then the entire year. Sometimes it is good to take a break.
But I can see this ‘break’, is becoming a habit, which isn’t going to be fun to break in six weeks when school starts again. Aside from that, I’ve noticed during those times when we aren’t doing anything in particular, the old familiar stress creeps in of having so much to catch up on, items scattered around the house and somehow we’ve started accumulating ‘stuff’’ again. It’s time to bring simplicity back.
If you’ve lost your simplicity this summer like I have, or are looking to get started living simply, these are the areas I’ll be revisiting to bring it back into our home-
Summer can be a wonderful time, and breaks are nice, even from the best simple living routines. When the break is no longer a break and starts to become habit, you realize how much you are missing as the daily benefits of simple living start to disappear. In my home, it’s time to go find that simplicity that we’ve lost.
