Iβm not trying to brag, but our house stays fairly clean now that we have jettisoned over 80% of our original belongings. Yes, we still have the occasional items that are left around the house like dog chew toys, shoes and books, but the majority of the time those things can be picked up and put back in their homes in under two minutes.
Because we have become efficient at keeping our home clean on a basic level, I have found there are times when I struggle with the idea that our children do not have enough βworkβ to do. By work, I mean housework, helping with the general upkeep and maintenance. I have them do the dishes, clean their bathroom and bedrooms and vacuum, but those chores take them very little time at this point.
Over time, I have developed a running list in my head of additional home maintenance I have them help with on a regular basis that would normally be saved in most households for spring-cleaning. Below is a list of 10 chores if youβd like to use it in your own home. They are all deeper cleaning, yet simple chores kids can take care of that will help keep your living area looking extra clean year round.
-Clean door jams, doors and knobs with Mr. Clean Erasers and Lysol wipes.
-Use sponge and an old toothbrush to clean baseboards and windowsills.
-Wipe down fronts of cupboards throughout the house.
-Use an old toothbrush to scrub around kitchen and bathroom faucets and knobs.
-Use a wet cloth to wipe dust from window and door blinds.
-Use Mr. Clean Erasers (I love them!) to scrub marks off of walls.
-Use a vacuum hose attachment to clean under couch and chair cushions.
-Wipe down kitchen chairs (including legs and backs).
-Clean and wash out garbage cans.
-Wipe fronts of appliances throughout the house in the kitchen and laundry room.
One of the most noticeable benefits of simple living is a home that requires very little cleaning. If you have reached that ideal spot for your family, that is wonderful!Β Β Keep it up and be sure your children are well rounded in home care past the day-to-day cleaning by having them move on to helping with maintenance.
