My last post I covered what a minimalist home is full of when you have less, in terms of non-physical possessions. In this post, I’ve dug in to the darkest recesses of my home to bring you some idea of how we live, and what our physical version of ‘minimal’ means. When I was starting out decluttering, I loved looking at pictures of other peoples homes, and how they decluttered, so today I am going to post a few pictures of different areas of my home for you to browse. Our family of 5 lives in a four bedroom, two bathroom, 1,868 square foot home in Georgia. Use caution though…not all of my space is completely minimal and perfectly organized!
When we moved to Georgia at the beginning of this year, we actually moved from a three bedroom, 1,012 square foot apartment in New York into this home. We tried a three bedroom in New York out of necessity (cost) and hoped that our two boys could share a room, our daughter have her own, and of course my husband and I have ours. However, due to one of my son’s sensory issues, we eventually decided that both boys needed their own room. It has been wonderful with the four bedrooms in this home.
I have been decluttering regularly for three years now, and continue to find items each week to donate, so, keep in mind as you take my home ‘tour’, it is always a work in progress!
Let’s get started on the tour…
I’ve posted general pictures of the main living areas in previous posts, so, the pictures below are meant to give you an idea of what my home looks like ‘behind the scenes’.
Kitchen-
Desk Area- Yes, I know, I have wayyyyyy too many pens for a minimalist…
Bathroom- Okay, so I am only showing you the master bathroom…the kid’s bathroom really isn’t bad…just kinda gross and germy at the moment. 🙂
Linen Closets-
Master Bedroom Closet- His and Hers sides…
My Budding Minimalists- They’ve gotten the ‘keep only what you use and treasure’ part down, just not the ‘put everything back when you are done using it part’… As a general rule, I stay out of their space when I minimize, letting them do it on their own. Yes, I do make them clean their rooms occasionally.
Odds and Ends- The laundry room, and the bookcase/study area in the master bedroom… (Please take special note of my Partridge Family metal lunchbox from when I was in school, and the doll my Mom sewed for my 3rd birthday…Crystal.) My husband can’t understand why he can’t minimize both of those for me… 🙂
And that concludes today’s tour! I hope you enjoyed looking into the darker corners of my home, and it doesn’t make you shy away from the idea of living more minimally. Would love any comments or thoughts you have to share, well, maybe….
